Cox Reservation

The Allyn Cox Reservation is the headquarters of the Essex County Greenbelt Association, the regional land trust that has conserved nearly 18,000 acres of farmland, wildlife habitat, and scenic landscape across Essex County.

The 31-acre property on Route 133 offers around a mile of easy walking trails through open meadows, coastal woodland, and salt marsh, with benches along the way and a wildlife viewing platform overlooking the tidal flats and the Essex River.

The property was donated to the Greenbelt in 1974 by the noted muralist Allyn Cox and connects to the wider Essex Coastal Trail network for those wanting a longer walk.

Free parking on site, open year-round during daylight hours. A quiet and genuinely beautiful place, particularly at high tide.

Note: Parking is on Route 133, marked by the Greenbelt Association sign. Trail maps available at ecga.org.
