Stavros Reservation

Stavros Reservation offers one of the most rewarding short walks anywhere on Cape Ann.

A three-quarter-mile loop trail climbs through field and woodland to the top of White’s Hill, a coastal drumlin that delivers open, unobstructed views of Crane Beach, Hog Island, the Crane Estate, and the Essex River estuary stretching out toward the Atlantic.

At the summit stands the fieldstone base of a 19th-century pumping tower built by the Burnham family, who used a sentinel stationed at the top to watch for coal barges rounding Halibut Point.

The walk takes around 30 minutes at an easy pace and is accessible year-round. Managed by The Trustees of Reservations. Roadside parking on Island Road, just off John Wise Avenue immediately past Cape Ann Golf Club.

Note: Tick awareness is advised. Check after visiting, particularly May through October. Mountain biking is not permitted.
