Cape Ann SUP & Surf

Cape Ann SUP started in 2010 with one truck and six paddleboards on Pavilion Beach. Owner Dominic Olivo, who grew up on Cape Ann, has built it into a four-location operation with its heart firmly in Essex.

The shop, known as The Board Barn, occupies a building on Southern Avenue that dates to 1740 and was moved to its current spot in the 1800s, and stocks boards, wetsuits, apparel, and a carefully chosen mix of gear from certified B-corporations and small independent makers.

On the water, the Essex location sits right in the heart of the Great Marsh. Group and private paddleboard lessons, two-hour guided tours of the river and salt marsh, SUP yoga, kids camps, and surf lessons are all available, along with free board delivery to any address on Cape Ann for rentals.
